 December 6, 2012

Sophomore Zhanna Chukhrii hit five 3-pointers on the way to 25 points and freshman Chelsea Jellison drained five more treys in scoring 19 as the Vincennes University Women's Basketball Team topped Danville 72-59 Wednesday night at the VU P.E. Complex. The win snapped a six-game losing streak for VU.

Freshmen India Cuttino and Deborah Martin had eight points each to support the Trailblazers' effort.

VU (3-8) got out to a 13-6 lead early on and withstood a 15-1 run by the Jaguars by outscoring Danville 18-12 late in the first half to lead 32-25 at intermission. The Trailblazers stretched the lead to near the 20-point range in the second before settling in to lead by 10-15 points throughout much of the second 20 minutes. VU was 12-for-12 at the free throw line in the second half to help seal the win.

The Trailblazers will host the VU Classic on Friday and Saturday at the VU P.E. Complex. On Friday, Southeastern Illinois and Cincinnati State will start off the event with a 5 p.m. game. VU and Lindsey Wilson will follow at 7 p.m. on Friday. Saturday's games will be a 1 p.m. contest between Southeastern Illinois and Lindsey Wilson while the Trailblazers and Cincinnati State tip off at 3 p.m.

Those Saturday games precede the VU Men's Basketball Team hosting Sinclair at 5 p.m.
