 December 5, 2012

Panthers Top Hudson Valley 72-70

TROY, N.Y. – A 15-footer at the buzzer by Tyseem Lyles (Health Professions H.S./Brooklyn) gave the Tompkins Cortland Community College men’s basketball team a 72-70 win at Hudson Valley Community College Tuesday. The Panthers’ third win in a row improves TC3’s overall record to 7-3 and its Region III mark to 4-2. Hudson Valley, the fifth-ranked team in this week’s Region III Coaches Poll, is now 7-4 overall and 4-4 in region.

The visiting Panthers led 40-33 at the half, but the home team came back to tie the game at 70-70 on a pair of free throws with seven seconds left in the game. After the free throws, TC3 got the ball to Lyles, who drove the baseline and pulled up for the game-winner. Lyles led the way with 23 points to go with seven rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Jaanai Beckford (Northstar Christian Academy/Yonkers) netted 14 points while grabbing ten boards and dishing out four assists. Devin Redden (St. Mary’s H.S./Buffalo) had 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals, and Brandon Reed (Corcoran H.S./Syracuse) had a double-double of ten points and ten rebounds while also posting two assists and two steals.
