No. 9 Lady Senators hammer Dyersburg State, 71-45

DYERSBURG, Tenn. – Aisjah Roan scored 18 points and Tangela Crenshaw added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the ninth ranked Walters State Lady Senators to a 71-45 rout of the Dyersburg State Lady Eagles inside Lannon Gymnasium Friday in Dyersburg.The Lady Senators (4-0, 2-0 TCCAA) used a solid defensive effort to top their Tennessee Community College Athletic Association rival. The Lady Eagles (2-3, 1-2) shot just 32.1 percent (17 of 53) from the field, including 3 of 21 from 3point range, and they committed 14 turnovers.

On offense, Walters State used a sizzling first half to build a big lead that they never relinquished. The Lady Senators shot 58.6 percent (17 of 29) in the opening 20 minutes, with Crenshaw totaling 10 points in the first half and Roan adding nine as Walters State took a 41-25 lead at intermission.

The Lady Senators steadily built on the lead in the second half and strolled to the 26-point win in the closest margin of victory this season for Walters State.

The Lady Senators finished the game shooting 47.4 percent (27 of 57) for the game, including 4 of 11 from long distance. Walters State also nailed 13 of 16 from the free throw line and outrebounded the Lady Eagles, 40-23.

Jasmine McAllister added nine points and six boards for the Lady Senators, while Bre Hall added eight points and Donnesha Shuler chipped in seven points and six rebounds in the win. Karly Frye dished out five assists, while Roan had four steals and Caprisha Rogers had three swipes in the contest.

Kelsey Nowlin led Dyersburg State with 14 points in the loss.

The Lady Senators will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Memphis to take on TCCAA rival Southwest Tennessee at 3 p.m.
