The Graphic Edge Bowl announces 2012 matchup
 November 14, 2012

AMES, Iowa—On December 2nd the ICCAC will host the Graphic Edge Bowl, where Ellsworth and (18) Louisburg will play for one final game of the season. This will be the first time that Louisburg has played in The Graphic Edge Bowl. Ellsworth has participated in the Graphic Edge Bowl multiple times, with the most recent time being in 2010.

Ellsworth is 6-4 on the season coming into the bowl game. Freshman quarterback, Jordan Doyle, has thrown for 1870 yards for 18 touchdowns and 400 yards rushing, scoring 5 touchdowns. Freshman Trey Gilbert is leading the Panthers in rushing with 720 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Louisburg comes into the bowl game with a record of 6-2, ranked 18th in the NJCAA poll. Freshman quarterback, Madison Mills, has thrown for 1328 yards for 14 touchdowns and rushed for 195 yards. Demarques Martin, sophomore, is the leading receiver for the Hurricanes, catching 30 passes for 614 yards and 3 touchdowns this season.

Ellsworth and Louisburg both have the capability of having a high-scoring offense. Both will have to look to score early and then get defensive stops and turnovers to capitalize on the game.  Both teams want to end the season with a victory to cap off the season.

John Sala, head coach for Louisburg, feels strongly towards playing in this bowl game. Sala coached at Ellsworth for seven years before coming to Louisburg. Sala has three Graphic Edge Bowl Game championships under his belt from coaching at Ellsworth.

“It is a great honor to play in the Graphic Edge Bowl. It holds a special place in my heart. Some of my fondest coaching memories are directly related to this bowl game. We knew that if we were lucky enough to be selected to participate in a bowl, we would choose this game over all other postseason invitations. Coming back to Iowa to play in this wonderful facility versus my former school is pretty special. I love the Graphic Edge Bowl and pretty soon the Hurricane players and football staff will understand why.”

Josh Gooch, first year head coach for Ellsworth, surpassed the expectations of many followers for the 2012 season.  Last week they fell just short to Iowa Western in the Midwest Football Conference championship game.  His team is very excited to have another opportunity to play together and finish the season on a high note.

“The Ellsworth Community College football program is honored to be part of The Graphic Edge Bowl Game.  Anytime you have a chance to be part of the post season is a reflection on the hard work and dedication that the players and coaches have put into the entire year.”

The Graphic Edge Bowl Game will be played at the UNI-dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Sunday, December 2, 2012.  The game will kickoff at 11am. Following the Ellsworth v. Louisburg game, Iowa Western and Butler will square off for the NJCAA Football Championship.
