No. 11 Lady Senators roll past Roane State, 84-37

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. – Three games into the season, the No. 11 ranked Walters State Lady Senators have yet to be challenged.
The Lady Senators kept their streak of blowouts intact Saturday in their Tennessee Community College Athletic Association opener, rolling to an 84-37 victory over visiting Roane State inside ‘Z’ Buda Gymnasium.

With the win, Walters State improves to 3-0 on the year, and they have won those three games by an average margin of 62.7 points per game.

The loss drops the Raiderettes to 0-2.

Roane State got off to a fast start, but Caprisha Rogers quickly cooled off the Raiderettes. Rogers knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers early on to put the Lady Senators on top 14-9, and the shots sparked a huge run to close the half for Walters State.

The Lady Senators forced 10 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes, converting them to 10 points on the offensive end. They used the turnover margin to go on a 31-9 run over the final 15 minutes of the half to take a 39-18 lead at halftime.

Walters State built the lead despite shooting only 37.8 percent (14 of 37) from the field in the first half, but they were 5 of 12 (41.7 percent) from long range. Roane State shot only 22.7 percent (5 of 22) and never got anything going after taking the early 9-8 lead.

The Lady Senators steadily built on the lead in the second half, building the margin to 54-28 by the midway point frame. Walters State closed the game on a similar run to the end of the opening half, outscoring the Raiderettes 30-9 in the final 10 minutes to close out the contest.

Walters State ended the night shooting 39.2 percent (31 of 79) from the floor, and they held a 55-33 advantage on the boards.

Rogers paced the Lady Senators with 18 points in the win, while Aisjah Roan popped in 12 points and Donnesha Shuler added 11. Shuler added nine rebounds, and Tangela Crenshaw complimented her six points with 14 boards. Roan added four steals and three assists, and Karly Frye added seven points and four assists in the victory.

Jasmine McAllister chipped in eight points and five boards, and Monasia Bolduc added seven points and seven rebounds.

Roane State shot just 25 percent (12 of 48) in the contest while making only 13 of 24 free throws and turning the ball over 18 times. Rameja Bell led the Raiderettes with 10 points in the defeat.

The Lady Senators will return to action Friday when they travel to Dyersburg to take on the Lady Eagles of Dyersburg State. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
