October 30, 2012
DIXON, Ill. --- The sibling duo of Prairie State College freshmen cross country runners Louis and Luke Henderson (Rich South H.S.) had finished in consecutive places in three out of the five races that they had competed in entering Saturday’s NJCAA Region IV Championship.
Make that four out of six.
Louis Henderson finished in sixth place while brother Luke locked down the seventh spot, helping tow the Pioneer men’s squad to a third-place effort in the team standings (77 points).
Morton took home the championship trophy following a 47-point output.
Louis completed the eight-kilometer race in a time of 27 minutes, 45 seconds, while Luke ran an equally-impressive 27:47.
Just seconds behind the Henderson’s was sophomore Malik Dorris (Romulus H.S., Mich.). Dorris navigated his way through the course in a time of 27:54, good for a ninth-place finish.
Both the Henderson’s and Dorris claimed spots on the all-region team.
Freshman Aaron Borgman (Beecher H.S.) also ran well, placing 25th in 29:28.
Sophomore Muhammad Chattha (Niles North H.S.), (33rd, 30:13), sophomore Matt Hensen (Beecher H.S.), (51st, 32:46) and freshman Julian Miranda (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.), (53rd, 33:14) rounded out the Pioneers’ top-seven runners.
Freshman Marley Keels (Rich Central H.S.) also ran hard for PSC, finishing 56th with a clocking of 34:37.
On the women’s side, freshman Larissa Swanson (Beecher H.S.) finished 13th in 21:02 to become just the second all-region runner in PSC women’s cross country history.
Both the Pioneer men’s team and Swanson will now gear up for the NJCAA Championship (Nov. 10) at Rend Lake in Ina, Ill.
