OVERLAND PARK – Both Hutchinson Community College cross country teams placed sixth on Saturday at the Region VI Cross Country Championships at Johnson County Community College.

The Lady Dragons, ranked 21st in the final NJCAA Division I Women’s Poll, placed second in the Jayhawk West team standings behind Colby. The HCC men took third in the conference.

“The girls were a little disappointed, but all in all, everybody ran really hard and really well today,” first-year head coach Rod Zook said.

The Blue Dragons had three runners finish as both All-Region VI and All-Jayhawk West runners.

On the men’s side, freshman Orbelin Rojas placed ninth overall in a time of 25 minutes, 57 seconds to capture all-region and all-conference honors.

Freshmen Ashlynn Lambert and Cecilia Lane once again led the Lady Dragons and both earned all-region and all-conference honors. Lambert finished 12th overall with a time of 19:52, the second time she has broke 20 minutes this season. Lane ran 20 minutes flat and finished 15th overall.

Sophomore Isaac Williams ran a personal-best time on Saturday and finished in the team’s top two for the first time this season. The sophomore from Pretty Prairie finished 20th overall with a PR time of 26:22 over the 8K course.
