BOONEVILLE, Miss. –  Northeast Mississippi Community College’s football team will wrap up its 2012 campaign as the Tigers make the trek to Moorhead to take on Mississippi Delta in a North Division showdown on Thursday, October 25.

Northeast (2-6, 1-4 in North Division) enters Thursday’s showdown with both of its wins coming on the road.

Northeast knocked off Jones County in Ellisville on September 8 30-21 and turned the trick against Coahoma on October 4 as Northeast walked out of Clarksdale with a 21-17 decision.

Mississippi Delta enters the match-up after scoring its first victory of the season in Week 8 action against Coahoma. The Trojans knocked off the Tigers 34-7 in Clarksdale on Saturday, October 20 for their first win of the year.

Mississippi Delta leads the all-time series 29-18 but Northeast has captured the last two meetings between the two teams including a 16-3 victory last season and a 26-13 decision during the 2010 season.

Northeast has also taken five of the last seven meetings between the two squads.

Northeast brings one of the nation’s top punters into the game.

Afterleading the nation for most of the season, Jonathan Harrison (Belmont) slipped into a tie for third in the national standings after the Tigers homecoming game with the Itawamba Indians.

Harrison is tied with Northwest Mississippi’s Chase Carpenter as both punters are averaging an even 41 yards per kick and is just a yard per kick behind new national leader Chris Van Orden of Snow College, who spring boarded to the top of the standings with a 42-yard per kick average.

Harrison is still the national leader with punts inside the 20-yard line with 12. Harrison’s longest kick of the season – a 60-yard punt against Holmes Community College on September 13 – ranks the Northeast sophomore eleventh in the country.

Transfer Jay Jones (Horn Lake) is averaging 70.4 yards per game on the ground and issixth in the Region XXIII standing with 493 yards on the year.

Quarterbacks Matt Lipham (Slidell, La.) and Nolan Genovese (Corinth) have combined to throw for almost 1,100 yards on the season with Lipham connecting for 776 yards and Genovese hitting 69-percent of his passes for 321 yards on the year.

Northeast’s defense contains the region’s sack leader as sophomore defensive end Lavon Hooks (Atlanta) has tallied 13.5 sacks on the year for the Tigers.

Nick Thomason (Muscle Shoals, Ala.) is fifth in the region standings with 64 tackles on the year as well.
