South Mountain Wins DII Men's Golf National Championship

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Cougars of South Mountain Community College (Ariz.) blew past the tournament field at the 2012 NJCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship en route to its third team national title in program history. SMCC finished the four-round event at Swan Lake Resort in Plymoth, Ind., with a team total of 1,163 (+11), which was 31 strokes in front of runner-up Tyler Junior College’s (Texas) 1,194 (+42).
All five Cougar golfers finished in the top 15 and all earned All-American honors. Jimmy Kozikowski led the way with a 2-under performance (286) to finish second overall. Jake Argento finished one-over (289) to take third. Matt Record and Marley Sweeney finished in a tie for 10th place with 12-over 300 performances.
Ryan Mulvany of TJC was the tournament medalist, producing a 283 (-5) to lead all competitors through four rounds. Tyler Terry tied for 12th with a 300 (+12) to help TJC take second place overall in the team standings.
John A Logan (Ill.) finished third overall, Southeast Community College (Neb.) fourth and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College rounded out the top five.
