COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 28, 2009) - Quinn Mecham (Snow College), D.J. Miller (Scottsdale Community College) and British Footman (East Mississippi Community College) have been selected as the NJCAA Football Players of the Week for games Oct. 22 through Oct. 25.

Mecham earns the Offensive Player of the Week award, Miller receives Defensive Player of the Week honor and Footman is the Special Teams Player of the Week.

 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Quinn Mecham; Snow College (Utah)
Quarterback; Salt Lake City, Utah; Timpview High School

 

Mecham (6'2", 195 lbs.) earns national Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. Against Phoenix (Ariz.) last Saturday he completed 17-of-25 pass attempts for 212 yards and four touchdowns. He also scrambled eight times for 26 yards rushing. Mecham's four TD passes helped lift the Badgers to a 34-14 win and keep Snow at No. 6 in the NJCAA / JC Football.com Poll this week. He currently leads all NJCAA passers with 30 touchdown passes and ranks second with 2,240 passing yards.

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Miller (5'9", 175 pounds) is the second Scottsdale football player to receive national Player of the Week honors in as many weeks. Miller had a phenomenal defensive game for the Artichokes in their 36-33 win over Mesa (Ariz.) last Saturday. He tallied 12 tackles (10 solo), one tackle for loss, three pass breakups and one forced fumble. He also intercepted three passes of which one he returned 38 yards for a touchdown and another he plucked out of the air in the end zone - stopping Mesa from taking the lead late in the fourth quarter.






SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Footman (6', 175 lbs.) complied 212 return yards in No. 8 East Mississippi's 28-10 home victory over Mississippi Delta last Saturday. He broke a 7-7 tie late in the first half with an 87-yard punt return for a touchdown, which marked his second punt return for a touchdown in the last three games. After a 44-yard kickoff return earlier in Miss Delta contest, he then set up EMCC's next score by returning a kickoff 81 yards to the 4-yard line. The Lions scored on the next play to take a 21-10 lead early in the second half.
