Chuck Clutts gets 600th win at Parkland

Parkland College softball battled Region 24 leader Illinois Central on Monday night in East Peoria and split their doubleheader. The victory was head coach Chuck Clutts' 600th at the helm of the Cobras. Clutts is now 600-214-2 in 14 years at PC.

The Cougars got an unearned run the 1st inning and that was all they needed in shutting out the Cobras 5-0.  ICC added 4 more runs in the 6th on 2 doubles a single and a HR.  Parkland had plenty of opportunities to score, leaving 6 runners  in scoring position.  Erin Hettinger lead the offense going 3-3 with a double and Alex Jacobs had 2 hits.  Jordan Wheeler (13-7) took the loss on the mound for PC.

The Cobras came out strong in game 2 with five runs in the 1st inning.  An RBI single by Kristine Herdegen and a grand slam HR over the left center field fence by Harley Tompkins were the big blows in the inning  PC added 2 more runs in the 3rd on an RBI double from Hunter Marsh and RBI single by Carly Sarff.  Erin Hettinger doubled in the 4th and scored on Alex Jacobs single.  
Elizabeth Walker (7-5) held ICC in check till the 7th when they mounted a mini rally and scored 2 more runs.  Parkland was lead by Harley Tompkins with 2 hits, a HR and 4 rbi, Hunter Marsh had 2 hits, and and RBI, and Shelby Franzen had 2 hits.

Parkland ended a five-game losing skid with the game 2 win and now stand 27-14 on the season. After an off-day Tuesday, Parkland will host Olney Central starting at 300 on Wednesday.
