Gloucester and FIT in the hunt after day two at 2013 DIII Women's Tennis Championship

Gloucester increases lead on tournament's second day

Flushing Meadows, N.Y. - Despite temperatures hovering around 50 degrees all day, the action heated up on the courts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on day two of the NJCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship.  After the tournament's second day, Gloucester (N.J.) holds a commanding 10-point lead over second-place Fashion Institute (N.Y.). The Roadrunners have eight chances to win flight titles tomorrow, and have two flights where they will meet the Tigers.  In second singles, Kiki Sivaramakrishnan (FIT) meets Vicky Russell (GCC), and in fourth singles, Kelly Stanton (GCC) faces Robyn Arteaga (FIT).

In first singles, a big upset took place when top seed Kayla Bohnhorst (FIT) fell to Grace Wills of Brookdale (N.J.), 1-6, 6-2, 6-4, in one semi-final.  In the other semi-final, Jenna Brophy of Hudson Valley (N.Y.) used three sets to upset second seeded Terra McHenry (Gloucester), 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.

The tournament’s final round in both the championship and consolation brackets is set for Friday starting at 9 a.m.  The day will conclude with a post-tournament ceremony taking place in the shadows of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
