Gloucester and Howard Claim Division III Outdoor Track & Field Titles

COLUMBIA, Md. – The outdoor track & field 2013 season came to a close Saturday, May 11th for the Division III ranks of the NJCAA. Gloucester County College (N.J.) finished atop the women’s team standings while host Howard Community College (Md.) won the men’s team championship.
Gloucester athletes finished third or better in 12 events, including first place finishes by Shaneen Datts in the heptathlon (3356 points) and Catherin Daugherty in the 1,500 meters (5:02.15). Datts also took home second place in the 100 meter hurdles (17.00).
The Roadrunners finished with 136.5 team points. Mohawk Valley Community College (N.Y.) came in second with 104 points and Prince George’s Community College (Md.) finished third with 96.
Howard was flat-out dominant in the men’s division, winning seven events and placing third or better in 21. Jahil Petgrave and Darius Bell were two of the top performers for Howard. Petgrave took first in both the 200 meters (21.59) and 400 meters (47.30) while Bell posted the top mark in the high jump (6’ 10.75”) and placed second in both the long jump (24’ 0.75”) and triple jump (47’ 9”).
Also capturing individual national titles were Edgar Propst (800 meters – 1:55.04) and Filagot Dinku (5,000 meters – 15:55.96) as well as Howards 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams.
