 March 28, 2013

Christopher J. Parker of Eden, NC, has been named Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Patrick Henry Community College, it was announced Tuesday.

Parker joined the college in 2006 and has served as the Athletic Director, overseeing all athletic programs at the college, since then. He also manages and coordinates all student activities as the Intramurals Coordinator and Physical Education, Recreation and Student Development faculty.  He currently serves as acting Dean of Humanities of Arts, Social Sciences and Business Technology.

“Chris brings a wealth of knowledge to this position and will do an outstanding job,” said PHCC President Dr. Angeline Godwin.  “He is committed to the mission of this college and its role in this community, and he will lead with the passion and determination the job of Vice President for Institutional Advancement demands and our college deserves. "

Godwin added, “Chris is a true believer in Patrick Henry Community College and what we have to offer to our students.  I welcome him to our team and look forward to working with him.”

From 2011- 2012, Parker served as the Interim Assistant Dean of Arts, Science and Business Technology. He also taught several student development courses and created a transferrable Associate’s Degree in Recreation, Parks and Sports Management.

Parker is currently completing a degree as Doctor of Education, focusing his research on resource development in community colleges.  He holds an Educational Specialist from Liberty University, a Master of Science and Sports Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a degree in Bachelor of Arts, Science of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise from Virginia Tech.

Parker was awarded Athletic Director of the Year in 2011 by the National Association of Collegiate Director of Athletics. He was also selected to be a part of the Leadership Academy of PHCC in 2009. Since 2012, Parker has been the Women’s Director of the Region X National Junior College Athletic Association.

“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to serve as the Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Patrick Henry Community College. The college's foundation is a phenomenal asset to past, present, and future students, and I sincerely look forward to its continued growth,” Parker said. “Having worked in the development domain since arriving at PHCC in 2006, I now look forward to moving that leadership directly into campus-wide fundraising efforts. Patrick Henry Community College and its entire service area are special places to me, and it is very humbling to be offered this opportunity. We, the college and the foundation, have lofty goals and much work to do, but with the support of the college family, the foundation board and the community, the sky is the limit.”

Parker begins his duties as Vice President for Institutional Advancement in early April.
