NJCAA Women's Basketball Players of the Week: Dec. 3-9
December 12, 2012COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Rayven Brooks (Chipola College, Fla.), Jakeenya Evans (Prairie State, Ill.) and Rebekah Aase (Riverland CC, Minn.) have been named NJCAA women’s basketball players of the week for games Dec. 3-9.
Brooks and the Indians strung together a couple of key wins heading into the holiday break. In an 87-73 victory over Palm Beach State (Fla.), Brooks posted a game-high 35 points and 11 rebounds. The sophomore came back with another double-double the following day, recording a game-high 25 points and 17 rebounds en route to a 97-47 thrashing of Brevard CC (Fla.).
The Pioneers benefitted from Evans’ monumental effort off the bench last week. Despite falling 68-65 to Kankakee CC (Ill.), Evans was 12-for-18 shooting for 28 points and recorded six rebounds and four steals. The freshman followed up with 21 points, eight rebounds and nine steals en route to a 66-63 victory over College of DuPage (Ill.).
Aase became the first women’s basketball player of 2012-13 to double up on player of the week honors with another superior showing last week. The sophomore averaged 19.7 points, 11 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.3 blocks in the Blue Devils’ three victories. Enjoying her best performance in an 88-27 rout of Fond du Lac TCC (Minn.), Aase totaled 18 points, 15 rebounds, six assists and five steals.
