Men's Basketball Players of the Week: Nov. 26 - Dec. 2
December 5, 2012COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Demarcus Lewis (Holmes CC, Miss.), Aaron Simpson (Lincoln College, Ill.) and Tommie Starkes (Rockland CC, N.Y.) have been named NJCAA men’s basketball players of the week for games Nov. 26 – Dec. 2.
Lewis put his exceptional offensive play on display in back-to-back games last week for the Bulldogs. The sophomore put up a game-high 31 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the field against Southwest Mississippi CC. Lewis added 10 rebounds for a double-double in Holmes’ 78-70 victory. Despite falling 64-58 to East Mississippi CC, Lewis hit 8-of-12 field goal attempts for a game-high 24 points and pulled down seven boards.
Simpson posted over 30 points in two of three games last week for the Lynx. Spurring Lincoln on to a 95-72 victory over Lewis & Clark CC (Ill.), Simpson knocked down 12-of-17 shots from the field for a game-high 36 points. The freshman then recorded 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists in a 76-54 rout of Black Hawk College-East (Ill.). Although the Lynx lost 85-81 to State Fair CC (Mo.), Simpson enjoyed another top-notch performance with 31 points, five assists and four steals.
Coming through for the Hawks with two double-doubles, Starkes led Rockland to victory in both of their games last week. The sophomore totaled 12 rebounds, five assists and a game-high 26 points as Rockland defeated Orange County CC (N.Y.), 92-79. In a 90-75 win over Queensborough CC (N.Y.), Starkes had a complete performance with 24 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and four steals.
