Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Nov. 12-18
November 21, 2012COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Tamara Jones (Garden City CC, Kan.), Courtney Cayard (Patrick Henry CC, Va.) and Jenna Lundun (Northland CTC, Minn.) have been named NJCAA women’s basketball players of the week for games Nov. 12-18.
Dominating the paint for the Broncbusters, Jones averaged a double-double last week in her team’s two victories. En route to a 69-61 win against Trinidad State JC (Colo.), Jones scored 23 points on 10-of-24 shooting and pulled down 16 rebounds. The sophomore came back the next day with 18 points and 17 boards in a 76-70 win over Allen County CC (Kan.).
Two outstanding performances by Cayard led the Patriots to victory in both of their contests last week. In a 73-50 win over Rockingham CC (N.C.), Cayard recorded a double-double behind 32 points and 11 rebounds. Against Frederick CC (Md.), the sophomore scored 20 points in the second half to spur Patrick Henry on to an 84-81 victory. Cayard hit four 3-pointers in the game and finished with 23 points.
The Pioneers won back-to-back games last week thanks to the stellar play of Lundun. The freshman knocked down three 3-pointers and totaled 17 points in Northland’s 57-52 victory over Bismarck State College (N.D.). Connecting on 10-of-12 shots from the field, Lundun posted 23 points the following day as the Pioneers drubbed United Tribes TC (N.D.) 71-46.
