NJCAA Football Players of the Week - Week 7
October 9, 2012
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Ouslet Volcy (ASA College, N.Y.), Matt Mogere (Central Lakes College, Minn.) and Patrick Sohrt (Navarro College, Texas) have been named NJCAA Football Players of the Week for games Oct. 1-7.
Volcy torched No. 16 Dean Saturday as the Avengers pounded the Bulldogs 69-14. The sophomore single-handedly outgained Dean’s 191 yards of offense with his own 250 yards receiving. Volcy totaled eight receptions and four touchdowns in the game, including a 63-yard touchdown reception early in the second quarter. No. 8 ASA and Volcy will be on the road Saturday at Lackawanna.
In a 53-7 thumping of Vermilion, Mogere personally scored more points than the Raiders defense gave up. Intercepting two passes, the sophomore took them back – 45 and 80 yards respectively – for touchdowns. Mogere also recorded three tackles and deflected a pass. The No. 17 Raiders and Mogere close out their regular season Saturday at Ridgewater.
In the Bulldogs’ 52-35 win over Tyler, Sohrt’s leg received plenty of exercise. The freshman was a perfect 7-for-7 on extra points in the victory. Sohrt closed the first half with a 42-yard field goal that boosted the Bulldogs’ lead to 31-19. On tap this week for Sohrt and the No. 11 Bulldogs is a visit from Southeast Prep.
