NJCAA Football Players of the Week - Sept. 24-30
October 3, 2012COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nick Marshall (Garden City CC, Kan.), Damarious Randall (Mesa CC, Ariz.) and Michael Thompson (NE Oklahoma A&M) have been named NJCAA Football Players of the Week for games Sept. 24 through Sept. 30.
Offensive honors were awarded to Marshall, while Randall was targeted as the Defensive Player of the Week. Thompson was pegged as the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Compiling over 600 yards of total offense, Marshall directed the Broncbusters to a 42-13 drubbing of Fort Scott CC (Kan.) last week. The sophomore completed 17-of-26 passes for 366 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, Marshall carried the ball 20 times for 241 yards and two more touchdowns. No. 19 Garden City and Marshall have a chance to put the country on notice Saturday when they head to No. 2 Butler CC (Kan.).
En route to a 43-0 shutout of Pima CC (Ariz.), Randall showcased his play-making abilities for the Thunderbirds. Blanketing receivers throughout the game, the sophomore intercepted three passes and broke up two more. Randall added six tackles – five solo – to the effort. Saturday, Randall and the Thunderbirds clash with Scottsdale CC (Ariz.) in a Maricopa County battle.
Thompson joined high school teammate Garrett Powell as the second Norseman to be named Special Teams Player of the Week this season. Despite suffering a disappointing 65-59 double-overtime loss to Tyler JC (Texas), Thompson returned two kickoffs 95 yards for touchdowns. The sophomore finished with 252 yards off kickoffs, averaging 50.4 yards per return. No. 13 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and Thompson will try to right the ship Saturday when they travel to Trinity Valley CC (Texas).
