NJCAA Football Players of the Week - Sept. 19, 2012
September 19, 2012COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Breon Allen (Snow College, Utah), Dorian Polk (Erie CC, N.Y.) and Garrett Powell (NE Oklahoma A&M) have been named NJCAA Football Players of the Week for games Sept. 10 through Sept. 16.
Offensive Player of the Week was awarded to Allen. Polk claimed the defensive award and Powell earned special teams honors.
Allen carried the Badgers to a 50-33 win over Glendale CC (Ariz.) last Saturday. The sophomore ran the ball 27 times for 281 yards, averaging 10.4 yards per carry. Allen also punched in three touchdowns on the ground. The No. 13 Badgers and Powell will have the week off before hosting No. 9 Scottsdale CC (Ariz.).
The Kats ran over Alfred State 30-7 last Saturday thanks in part to Polk’s defensive effort. Midway through the third quarter, Polk intercepted a pass and took it 40 yards for the touchdown. The sophomore also recorded a pick with the Kats backed up at their own 2-yard line and had six tackles – four solo – in the victory. Polk and Erie are set for a showdown Saturday with No. 7 Nassau CC (N.Y.).
Powell proved that one of the best weapons a team can have is a good punter in the Norsemen’s 42-31 upset of No. 9 Blinn College (Texas). Booting the ball 165 yards on three punts, the sophomore averaged 55 yards per punt and pinned the Buccaneers inside their 20-yard line twice. The No. 14 Norsemen and Powell return home this weekend to host Southeast Prep.
