Minnesota State CTC Wins DIII Men's Golf Championship

CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. – The 2011-12 NJCAA season came to a close Friday, June 8 at Chautauqua Golf Course in N.Y. with the Division III Men’s Golf Championship, marking the last national championship event for the organization this academic year.

Minnesota State Community and Technical College took home the team championship with a four-round total of 1,224 (+72). Jamestown Community College (N.Y.) was second at 1,224 (+90) and Louisburg College (N.C.) came in third with a score of 1,244 (+92).

Minnesota State was led by Lucas Gervais who finished fourth overall with a 10-over 298. Taylor Shuck finished 10th with a score of 306 (+18).

Shane Dobesh of Monroe Community College (N.Y.) won tournament medalist honors with a two-over 290. Dobesh finished 12th overall last year.

Colby Lewis of Rockland Community College (N.Y.) finished five-over par (293) to place second followed by Josh Bialecki of Cincinnati State Community & Technical College (Ohio) at nine-over (297).

Jake Yartz of Jamestown was fourth overall at 11-over par (299).

Minnesota State is just the second team from Region 13 to win the DIII golf championship since the division was created in 1990 (Central Lakes College – 2005).
