NJCAA Volleyball Players of the Week - Sept. 14, 2011
September 13, 2011COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Marifranchi Rodriguez (Miami Dade College, Fla.) and Lisa Angello (Kansas City – Kansas CC) have been named NJCAA Volleyball Players of the Week for games Sept. 5 through Sept. 11. Rodriguez was selected Player of the Week for Division I, while Angello was named Player of the Week for Division II.
Rodriguez (6’ 3”) got off to a quick start to the 2011 season with double-double performances in her first two matches. The sophomore middle blocker registered 18 kills and 11 blocks in the season-opener, leading the Lady Sharks to a three-set sweep of Indian River State (Fla.). Rodriguez followed up with 21 kills and 12 digs in a sweeping victory over Palm Beach State (Fla.). The Dominican also recorded four blocks and three aces in each match. Rodriguez and the Lady Sharks kick the season into high-gear this week with five matches on tap.
Angello (5’ 8”) used her all-around talent to lead the Blue Devils to a 4-1 record last week. Defensively, the freshman tallied 63 digs in the five matches including a season-high 16 in a three-set sweep of Allen County CC (Kan.). Angello scored 42 kills and had a double-double against Neosho County CC (Kan.) with 13 kills and 12 digs. This week, Angello and KCKCC will face two conference opponents before heading to the Kishwaukee Tournament in Malta, Ill. ------------------------------------------------------- Volleyball Players of the Week (Sept. 5 – Sept. 11)
