Titans win 20th of the year, in 83-56 win over Miami Dade
Brevard went on the road Saturday afternoon at Miami Dade and came away with their 20th win of the year, 83-56. BCC led 41-22 at half, and pushed the lead to as many as 36 points in the second half. 5 Titans scored in double figures on Saturday, led by Ellis Young and Addison Spruill, with 16 points each. Each had 6 boards as well. D’Montre Edwards added 13 points (9 rebounds), Nyles Evans 11 points, and big man Steve Forbes 10 points (6 rebounds). Sophomores Josh Warren and Louis Adams also had good games, each with 7 points (Warren with 8 rebounds, Adams with 4 assists and 3 steals). Brevard closes out its regular season Monday night at Palm Beach State (7:30pm, Lake Worth, FL), before hosting the first round of the Southern Conference tournament on Monday, February 27th.

Greetings and welcome back for another season of Brevard Community College Titans Golf. BCC’s Fall season began this past week with the Wallace State Fall Invitational in Cullman, Alabama. Playing 54 holes over two days on the par 72, 6351 yard Cullman Municipal Golf Club, the Titans finished in second place to Meridian Community College (Mississippi) in the field of seven junior college golf teams. Thru 36 holes the Titans were two shots out of first, trailing Meridian 560 – 562. BCC opened up with a two under par 286 during the morning round on day one and scored ten shots lower in the afternoon round (276) with the help of Titan’s sophomore Billy Anderson’s course record tying 62. Billy’s round included 11 birdies, 1 eagle, 1 bogey, and one double bogey. Billy led the individual portion of the tournament by three shots after 36 holes with his return of 72-62 = 134 (ten under par).
Day two saw BCC paired with tournament leaders Meridian CC and third place Central Alabama Community College, in anticipation of a shootout over the final 18 holes. BCC started off quickly with freshman Anthony Skirk (Viera HS) leading the way at three under par thru six holes. Somewhere during the middle of the round, BCC’s scoring saw fewer birdies and more bogies, and Meridian pulled away to win by fourteen shots at the end. Billy Anderson followed his record tying performance with a two under par 70 in the final round and win his third career college tournament by five shots over Dylan Brown of Meridian, 204 – 209. Freshman Justin Kalanquin recorded his first collegiate top ten (T 8th place) with consistent scoring of 72-72-71 = 215.

BCC’s roster has quite a few changes from last year. Departing from the team are graduates:
- Taylor Johnson (UNF), Kyle Martin (USF – January 2012), Frank Berzanskis (FAU), Wes Fidler, Cody Geiger (UCF), and Logan Goodson.
Incoming freshman include:
- Anthony Skirk (Viera HS), Frank LaBella (Bayside HS), Justin Kalanquin (Grand Forks, North Dakota), Keith Greene (Deltona HS), Blake Biggs (Chicago, Illinois) and Jose Barreto (Venezuela).
Returning sophomores are:
- Billy Anderson (Deland HS), Louis Dunn-Allen (London, UK), Bryan Odaiyar (Ocala, FL), Eric Sithideth (Lake Mary, FL), Travis Tolbert (Astronaut HS).
With five tournaments on the Titans Fall schedule, BCC is set for a busy open to the season in preparation for another run at the National Championship, to be played in May 2012 in Newton, Kansas. The Titans next event takes place in Lake Wales for the Webber International Fall Invitational on September 25-26.

BCC Volleyball finishes 2nd at Spartanburg Methodist Tourney in South Carolina
The BCC Lady Titans took 2nd place this past weekend in the Spartanburg Methodist Tournament in Spartanburg, SC, going 4-2 for the weekend. The Lady Titans went 3-0 on Saturday, then lost the 1st match on Sunday to Wallace State CC from Alabama (14-25; 25-18; 20-25; 17-25), before rebounding to beat Pitt CC in the semi finals of the tourney (25-19; 25-15; 25-17). The win over Pitt CC led to a championship game rematch against Wallace State. After winning the 1st set 25-22, the Lady Titans lost the 2nd set in a heartbreaker by the score of 26-28. Wallace carried the momentum to a 3rd and 4th set win to claim the championship.
Matia Spencer (sophomore from Nevada) took MVP honors with 72 kills and 112 digs.
Kelly Short (freshman from Melbourne High School) had 59 kills and 89 digs.
Alicia Vaccarelli another freshman from Melbourne High School graduate had 54 kills and 26 solo blocks.
Sonja Hamke from Holy Trinity HS had 160 assists as the tournament leading setter.
Lady Titans overall record is now 6-3 on the year after a Tuesday night 3 set win over Broward, which kicked off Conference play. The Lady Titans 1st home conference match is this Thursday Sept 8, 2011 at 7:00pm against Indian River State College at Titan Coliseum (Gym, Building 6) on the Melbourne campus.
Brevard Golf finishes 3rd at NJCAA National Championship, Anderson wins Individual Title

The Brevard Community College Titans golf team returned from Odessa Texas with a third place finish in this year’s NJCAA National Championship. Titans freshman Bill Anderson earned medalist honors in the field of 117 junior college golfers to bring home BCC’s seventh individual title in this event over the past 40 years.
In the team portion of the competition, 23 teams from around the country were vying for the title of National Champion for the 2010-2011 season. Indian Hills of Ottumwa, Iowa held the lead after rounds 2, 3, and 4 to take home the team championship. BCC improved from fourth to third, then to second after the first three rounds, and trailed the eventual winners by twelve shots heading into the fourth, and final, round. The Titans were able to cut into Indian Hills lead by four shots through twelve holes, and then fell back at the end to finish third overall. Friday’s fourth round was contested in typical west Texas winds in excess of 35 miles per hour, and the field was thoroughly tested on the 7388 yard par 72 Odessa Country Club.
The Titans own Billy Anderson, from Deland High School, scored rounds of 71-75-67-70 = 283 (five under par) to win by four shots over Jeff Hageman of McLennan Community College and Joe Sakulpolphaisan of Darton Community College. Anderson began round four just one shot out of the lead, and played steady down the stretch in the difficult conditions to earn medalist honors. Billy’s first place finish earns him first team NJCAA All-American honors as well as the coveted Arnold Palmer Award for the national championship winner. Billy follows in the footsteps of BCC alumnus and 2004 national champion, Jacob Davis, also out of Deland High School. Joining Billy as an All-American is Titan sophomore Kyle Martin. Kyle scored 74-70-71-76 = 291 to tie for eighth overall and earn Honorable Mention All-American. Kyle finishes his career at BCC as a two time All-American as he tied for 14th in the 2010 championship. Rounding out the Titans scoring were sophomore Wes Fidler at 297 (29th), sophomore Taylor Johnson (North Florida signee) at 301 (41st), and freshman Louis Dunn-Allen at 313 (93rd).

Brevard Golf headed to NJCAA National Championship

The Brevard Community College Titans Golf team closed out the regular season with a sixth place finish at the Barry Buccaneer Invitational, and followed that tournament with a fourth place finish at the NJCAA District 3 Championship. Those teams finishing in the top seven at the District Championship qualified for the NJCAA National Championship to be played May 17 – 20 in Odessa, Texas.
At the Barry Buccaneer Invitational, the Titans were the only Junior College competing in the field of fourteen teams, held at Normandy Shores Golf Club in Miami, Florida. Tournament host Barry came out on top (scoring 285-274-295 = 854, 2 over par) by six shots over second place University of West Florida (860). BCC scored 884 (296-289-299 = 884), with sophomore Kyle Martin leading the scoring for the Titans after rounds of 74, 70, and 74 (equaling 218), and finishing tied for 20th individually. Freshman Billy Anderson returned tied for 30th at 222; Sophomore Wes Fidler tied for 38th at 225; Sophomore Taylor Johnson finished tied for 42nd at 226; and sophomore Frank Berzanskis finished at 228, tying for 58th. Jack Bartlett of Nova Southeastern University was tournament medalist at 2 under par 211.

After finishing the tournament in Miami, the Titans traveled to Alexander City, Alabama for the NJCAA District 3 Championship, which comprised of 13 teams from the southeast region of the United States. BCC finished 17 shots behind tournament winner Darton Community College (Albany, Georgia). Darton finished 13 under par (851) and eclipsed Meridian Community College (Meridian, Mississippi) by six shots (857). BCC was led by sophomore Taylor Johnson’s sixth place finish after rounds of 72, 72, and 68 (=212). Sophomore Kyle Martin tied for 10th at 217; Freshman Billy Anderson tied for 13th at 218; Sophomore Wes fidler finished 16th at 221; and Freshman Louis Dunn-Allen tied for 34th at 226. 2010 National Champion Brandt Garon of Meridian took home medalist honors after rounds of 73, 66, and 68 (=207).
Congratulations go out to BCC Freshman Billy Anderson who was selected to the District 3 All Region Team for his play thru-out the school year. Billy had one tournament win this past year, three top five finishes and five top ten’s in all. Ten players are selected for each All-Region team and those players will have the opportunity to be named to the Ping (Golf Company) All-American teams at the National Championship.

With only two weeks remaining in the spring semester the team will be busy preparing for final exams and we will have one additional week of preparation prior to departing for Texas.
