August 11, 2010
DODGE CITY, Kan. -- Members of the Dodge City Community College athletic department volunteered their time during the 50th annual Dodge City Days Festival. Student-athletes were seen at various events during the 10 day celebration that is the second largest community event held in the entire state of Kansas.
Members of the Conquistador football team and cheer squads were well received by parade spectators along the parade route. Many of the spectators were thrilled to receive free tickets to the first home football game of the season on September 18th against Independence Community College.
Members of the Conquistador rodeo team were heavily involved in the Dodge City PRCA rodeo. The Dodge City Roundup PRCA Rodeo has been named the PRCA’s “Large Outdoor Rodeo Committee of the Year” an unprecedented nine times. During the slack and rodeo performances, rodeo team members helped prepare the performance livestock for this event. Also helping out during the rodeo was the Lady Conquistador volleyball team, who helped out in the Dodge City Women’s Chamber concession stand.
On the final day of Dodge City Days, members of the men's and women's soccer teams as well as the entire Conquistador football team volunteered at the KidsFest event for children ages 4-12. They helped run various games and activities, including stick horse races, football toss and a penalty kick challenge, in which the prizes for the kids were school supplies for the upcoming school year.
