Itawamba, Northwest Food Drive an overwhelming success

SENATOBIA, MS – Itawamba Community College and Northwest Mississippi Community College teamed together during Thursday’s football game to host a canned food drive that  brought in over 250 canned food items and other goods to benefit the Hope Ministries of Senatoiba.

“We want to thank the entire Senatobia community and also the support we got from Itawamba in helping make this event an overwhelming success,” said Northwest Sports Information Director Kevin Maloney. “We weren’t expecting this kind of a response the first time we did this. I’m optimistic next year’s canned food drive will be even larger.”

Hope Ministries’ goal is to bring lasting hope to the homeless by providing comprehensive and holistic programs and services to help homeless and displaced men, women and children rebuild their lives.

In addition, through their year-round meal programs, they provide healthy, nutritious meals to thousands throughout the community.

“Like our friends at Northwest, we know and appreciate the value our community plays in the success of our college in more than just athletics,” said Assistant SID Adam Gore. “That’s why we our coaches and student-athletes are heavily involved with community service projects throughout the year and also why we didn’t hesitate to team up to help with this project helping so many in the Senatobia area.”

ICC and Northwest Mississippi Community College will team up for a second canned food drive when the Indians and Rangers square off at the Davis Event Center in January to benefit the Itawamba West Food Pantry.
