David Rowlands Award
Larry Kendrick Chosen for 2004 David Rowlands Award

The 2004 NJCAA David Rowlands Male Student Athlete of the Year award was given sophomore football standout Larry Kendrick of Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Miss.

Kendrick was an NJCAA All-American selection on both sides of the ball, receiving first-team honors as a defensive back and honorable-mention honors as a wide receiver.  The 6-0, 210 pound sophomore also returned and defended punts and kickoffs.  A Davenport, Fla. native, he led the nation with nine interceptions in 11 games for the 2004 season and was the Mississippi Community College Conference offensive and defensive player of the year. He also tallied 11 touchdown receptions, averaging one per game and tying for the national lead.

Kendrick was an all-conference selection at both wide receiver and defensive back.  He totaled 14 touchdowns and 200 punt-return yards, leading the conference in both categories.  A Region XXIII All-Region selection on both sides of the ball, he was also the region's offensive player of the year. Kendrick tallied 86 points last season, scoring points five different ways: returning two interceptions for touchdowns, returning a blocked extra-point, throwing two touchdown passes, catching 11 touchdown passes and scoring on a fake extra-point attempt.

After fielding offers from Ole Miss, Alabama, South Carolina and Auburn, Kendrick finished his collegiate football career at Ole Miss.
