Brian Flores Chosen for 2006 David Rowlands Award

The 2006 NJCAA David Rowlands Male Student Athlete of the Year was sophomore baseball standout Brian Flores of New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, N.M.

Flores, a two-year team caption, was also a two-time Western Junior College athletic Conference MVP and First-Team NJCAA all-Region selection. He was also a two-time NJCAA all-America selection, receiving Second-Team honors in 2005 and First-Team honors in 2006. Flores was named the 2005 NJCAA JUCO Baseball World Series Outstanding Pitcher and named to the All-Tournament Team after leading the Thunderbirds to the 2006 national title.

He received the 2006 Dutch Klein Award, which recognizes the student-athlete that best displays the qualities of leadership, citizenship, cooperation, scholarship and athletic achievement at New Mexico Junior College. Flores also volunteered and worked with the local youth at the Hobbs Boys and Girls Club.

Athletic Director, Richard Morris said "On campus, he was the ideal student-athlete who, by his example and leadership, inspired other to give their very best at all times; off campus, his commitment to community service was both impressive and heartwarming as he consciously strove to represent New Mexico Junior College well while living up to the same high standards he set for himself."

The 5-11, left-handed pitcher is the overall winning NMJC pitcher with a two-year mark of 26-4. He pitched a perfect game and two no-hitters during his tenure at NMJC and was been drafted twice by the White Sox's (2004 and 2005).  He continued his collegiate baseball career at Arizona State University where he was a member of their 2007 team that advanced to the NCAA College World Series.
